Hatha:
Suitable for beginners, this 60-minute class emphasizes breath work and postures to build strength, balance, and flexibility. Poses are done on the floor as well as standing, and students should be able to get up and down from the floor. Modifications can be made whenever needed.
Vinyasa:
This is a more physical style of yoga compared to Hatha, joining movement and breathing in pose sequences that build strength, endurance, and balance. Prior yoga experience is helpful, but not necessary.
Chair:
Suitable for all levels, this 45-minute class focuses on postures both in and out of the chair, but not on the floor. Poses are focused on building strength, flexibility, and balance.
Chair Yoga with Weights (formerly Advanced Chair Yoga):
This 45-min. class incorporates more props, more movement, more challenging postures, and optional floor work for students already familiar with Chair Yoga.
Gentle:
This class uses various yoga props to support gentle yoga postures, helping to improve awareness, breathing, flexibility and relaxation. Appropriate for beginners and students with physical limitations, however, students should be comfortable practicing on the floor.
Adaptive Yoga:
All students are welcome to this 60-min. practice that is adaptable for all levels. Mindful movement and breathing are the focus of this practice, as well as strength and balance in standing postures. Floor and seated postures (with or without a chair) are included, in addition to a final relaxation and/or meditation.
Vin/Yin:
This class combines two styles of yoga: Vinyasa and Yin. Class begins with 15 min. of Vinyasa (see description above), and is followed by 15 min. of Yin. This pattern is then repeated. The Yin style of yoga includes postures held for longer periods of time (1-5 minutes each) focusing on the deeper tissues of the body. Variations and modifications are offered for all postures.
Yoga for Breast Cancer:
Yoga for Breast Cancer is designed for those currently in treatment or post-treatment who want to receive the benefits of yoga – strength, greater range of motion, and peace of mind. This yoga practice aims to help with the side effects of breast cancer and treatment with postures incorporating movement and strength, as well as relaxation. No yoga experience is necessary and all props will be provided. To ensure that classes meet students’ interests and physical abilities, please contact me to discuss your participation and to reserve a space in the class. Your health provider’s approval is necessary to attend these classes.
Yoga for Better Backs:
This beginning level 60-minute yoga class is designed for students with various back issues to help build strength and increase flexibility. Our goal is to reduce back pain and increase range of motion using various props in both floor and standing yoga postures for the back, neck, and shoulders. Practice includes the use of numerous props, such as the wall. Suitable for most back issues, however, if you have any concerns please contact me before attending class. Space is very limited to ensure individual attention.
Prenatal Yoga:
Join other expectant mothers on their pregnancy journey while developing and maintaining strength, flexibility, circulation and balance. This 60-min. practice cultivates body awareness and promotes peace, calmness, and confidence in preparation for birth. Health provider’s permission to attend required.
Veterans’ Yoga:
Offered as a free 60-min. class to veterans and family members at the Saginaw Vet Center. This is a gentle, all-levels class that incorporates mindful breathing as well as standing and seated physical postures for strength, flexibility, balance, and peace of mind. No yoga experience required.
Restorative Yoga:
Suitable for all levels, this relaxing, peaceful practice emphasizes being rather than doing. Numerous props are used to ensure comfort and support in these longer poses (5-20 min. each).
Evening Flow:
This class is a mix between several styles of yoga, depending on students’ preference. Suitable and adaptable for all levels.
